The Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, through the Tanzania Standard Newspapers (TSN), is continuing to implement a major investment project to upgrade printing infrastructure. This includes the construction of a modern printing press facility and the purchase of new, advanced printing machines.
While presenting the Ministry’s revenue and expenditure estimates for the 2026/27 financial year in Parliament, Hon. Paul Makonda stated that construction of the facility has reached 83.1 percent, while procurement of the machines stands at 85 percent. This indicates that the project is nearing completion and will improve efficiency and the quality of printing services in the country.
Highlighting achievements and ongoing efforts by TSN to strengthen the media sector, Hon. Makonda said that in terms of content, the company has continued to improve the production and dissemination of information through its newspapers, HabariLeo and Daily News, its online platform (Daily News Digital), and social media channels. These efforts aim to inform the public about government activities under the leadership of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan. By April 2026, TSN had produced and published a total of 2,973 strategic articles.
In addition, Hon. Makonda noted that TSN has made significant progress in preserving national records by establishing a special digital historical archive. Through this initiative, 12,600 editions of Daily News and HabariLeo, 2,499 photographs, and 2,100 special articles have been indexed, making them easier to access.
He said the system stores valuable historical records, including the country’s history, its leaders, liberation struggles in Southern Africa, and diplomatic affairs. As a result, TSN has become an important reference source for various national publications, including books about national leaders and official records, as well as photographs used at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre.
To further strengthen digital systems, Hon. Makonda explained that TSN has introduced an Integrated Management Information System (TIMIS), which connects the digital archive with the company’s website. This system is designed to improve service delivery and enable stakeholders to access information from anywhere in the world.
Overall, the Minister’s speech shows the Government’s commitment to continue strengthening TSN so that it becomes a strong, modern institution contributing significantly to the development of the media Industry in Tanzania.
