As part of the preparations for the International Women’s Day celebrations marked on March 8 every year, the Women’s Committee of the Research, Academic and Allied Workers Union (RAAWU) Eastern Zone today, February 25, 2026, visited the Tanzania Standard Newspapers (TSN) and held discussions with women employees of the institution.
The delegation was led by the Committee Chairperson, Ms. Neema Mgaya, and was welcomed by the Chairperson of RAAWU at TSN, Ms. Gloria Tesha, together with the women’s leadership under Chairperson Anna Laizer.
Speaking during the meeting, Ms. Tesha said that the status of women within the branch has significantly improved. She emphasized that women have been performing out their duties with diligence and a high level of discipline. She further stated that due to their strong performance, RAAWU has received very few disciplinary cases involving women. She also commended TSN women for their substantial contribution to the institution’s development.
On her part, the Secretary of the TSN Women’s Committee, Ms. Eutropia Mtokambali, presented a brief report highlighting the achievements of TSN women and their participation in various social activities. She reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration and strengthening solidarity.
Delivering a speech, Ms. Mgaya explained that the purpose of the visit was to encourage TSN women to actively participate in the upcoming International Women’s Day celebrations scheduled for March 8, 2026. She also urged them to contest for various leadership positions from branch to zonal levels, underscoring the importance of women initiating joint projects that will promote unity, solidarity, and both individual and collective development.
On behalf of TSN women, Ms. Ikunda Mushi expressed gratitude to the Eastern Zone Women’s Committee for their visit and encouragement. She pledged that TSN women will continue to uphold unity and solidarity, actively participate in the commemorations, and engage fully in the process of contesting leadership positions from branch to zonal levels.
The visit by the Eastern Zone women Committee also included the Zone Women’s Secretary, Ms. Mwamini Andrew, and the Zonal Secretary, Mr. Mecky Humo.
