Dachi Urges Students on Discipline and Responsible Use of AI

The Director of the Tanzania Government Newspapers Company, Asha Dachi, has urged Form Six students at Zanaki Secondary School to uphold discipline, embrace continuous learning, and demonstrate courage in their studies.

She made these remarks today during the school’s Form Six graduation ceremony, noting that students are entering a rapidly changing world driven by artificial intelligence technology. She cautioned them to be mindful of how they use such technology.

“I urge you to uphold Tanzanian values. Another area that requires great attention is the use of artificial intelligence. It has brought significant changes, even in how we work. In some ways, it may appear to be a threat to employment, but there are also ways we can use it as a tool to benefit our society.

“As we leave here today and proceed to university, we should not rely on artificial intelligence to answer questions. While it has the ability to generate answers when prompted, it does not necessarily build your own capacity. We must develop our own abilities, humanity, and critical thinking,” said Dachi.

On his part, the Head of Zanaki Secondary School, Delvine Koka, said the school has a total of 1,175 female students from Form One to Form Six, 60 teachers, and six non-teaching staff. She noted that the school faces several challenges, including poor classroom flooring, a shortage of teaching computers, lack of air conditioning, and worn-out student furniture.
